Booking.com
Booking.com is the largest single OTA in the world by listings, indexing 28+ million accommodations from hotels through small B&Bs, hostels, and vacation rentals. Most listings are bookable with no upfront payment and free cancellation up to a deadline.

What it does well
- Free-cancellation filter. One click hides every non-refundable rate. Lock in a refundable hold while you compare, then convert later.
- Genius loyalty program. Free tier; gives 10% off select properties immediately. Higher tiers unlock more discounts and free upgrades.
- Map-based search. Drag the map and prices update live. Easier than a list view when location-relative-to-X matters more than star rating.
- Property responsiveness. Most properties can be messaged directly through Booking before and after booking — useful for early check-in, dietary needs, transfers.
Best for
Hotel, B&B, and apartment stays globally. Particularly strong in Europe. Less competitive on US chain hotels (where direct booking + chain loyalty often wins) and on luxury (where supplier-direct or specialty agents may price better).
Watch out for
- Pre-paid non-refundable rates. Discount looks attractive but you forfeit the entire stay if plans change. Read the cancellation block carefully.
- Vacation rental review parity. Booking has rentals but its reviewer base for them is thinner than Airbnb's. Cross-check on the property's other listings.
- Resort fees. US properties often charge resort fees on arrival that may or may not be reflected in the displayed total. Check the “price details” expander before booking.
How we verify this page
Genius tier benefits and policies are checked quarterly against Booking's official program pages. We don't recommend specific properties on this page.
