Hotels and stays
Compare hotels, B&Bs, hostels, and vacation rentals through major OTAs. Inventory overlaps significantly across the big four (Booking, Hotels.com, Expedia, Agoda) — the differentiator is loyalty math, regional strength, and cancellation flexibility.
Recommended starting points
- Booking.com — widest inventory globally, free-cancellation filter, strongest in Europe.
- Hotels.com — OneKey loyalty, simpler hotel-only UI than Expedia.
- Expedia — best for bundling a flight + hotel together for package savings.
- Agoda — deepest Asia-Pacific inventory, AgodaCash cashback.
- Traveloka — Southeast Asia inventory and local payment methods that other OTAs don't index.
How we recommend comparing
- Start with Booking for inventory breadth and the free-cancellation filter. Identify your shortlist of properties.
- Cross-check the property's direct site. Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Hyatt, and Wyndham all guarantee their best rate when you book direct as a (free) loyalty member. Often beats OTA pricing.
- Check the property on a regional OTA if you're traveling in Asia (Agoda, Traveloka) or Europe (Booking). Local OTAs sometimes have inventory the others don't.
- Re-verify the cancellation cutoff. OTA cancellation deadlines are sometimes 24–48 hours earlier than the same property's direct policy.
What to watch out for
- Resort fees. US properties often charge resort fees on arrival that may not be in the displayed total. Expand “price details” before booking.
- Pre-paid non-refundable rates. Discounts look attractive but you forfeit the full stay if plans change. Read the rate rules.
- Member-only prices. Most OTAs gate 5–20% of inventory behind a free signed-in account. Always sign in before pricing.
- Tax handling on international stays. City taxes are sometimes added on arrival, not at booking.
